Do You Remember What You Were Doing Spring 2020?

Back in March 2020, COVID-19 struck the world. For many of us, including me, that meant working remotely and spending the majority of my time indoors. Remember all the Netflix shows we binge watched and standing in line just to get our groceries and all the homemade masks? Google these masks for a laugh, I promise you!

Many parents had to juggle homeschooling and working remotely. Most of us did our best, especially all the first responders and essential workers. And educators who kept our kids learning virtually. Let’s take a moment and extend some gratitude to all the individuals who kept America moving during these challenging times, filled with so much uncertainty. Thank you!

During the early months of COVID-19, whether we liked it or not, the meaning and purpose of home changed and new habits needed to be created fast! I had just begun a new job mid March 2020 as an eCommerce Relationship Manager for various online Merchants. When COVID-19 hit, most businesses had hop on the eCommerce train or they wouldn’t survive. I was working remotely but the job and onboarding was extremely challenging as a result of COVID-19’s impact on everything and everyone. A good fitness or gym routine always centered me when I felt challenged in life. But the gym were closed. I had to go back to my home workout days from when I was a teenager nearly 20 years ago. I know I am aging myself!

I had to get creative and find ways to incorporate and prioritize physical activity and fitness back into my life.

There was so much uncertainty with COVID-19 during spring 2020. I had no idea when anything would reopen, including the gyms. I’m not a big fan of the forest and critters but I managed to adopt hiking and long walks into my after work routine. Eventually, I found creative ways to workout in my home using basic equipment I had such as dumbbells, kettlebells and by simply using my body weight. I found a new sense of discipline similar to my teen years when my mother allowed me to create a home gym in the middle of our living room. The theme or word for spring 2020 was resiliency. No matter what age you were or were you were located in the world, we all had to learn how to be as resilient as possible.

What got me through all the fear, uncertainty and constant change was finding my center or peace again by prioritizing physical health through. The gyms eventually reopened. I was extremely grateful that I could now use my old work commute time or lunches at home to my advantage. I gained precious hours back. I created new SMART fitness goals and coached myself to achieve them with the time I had gained.

Spring 2020 was really the foundation for Fitness with Dinach. Time was precious and working out from home made me maximize every minute!
